Paris Fashion Weeks of the Past
Finishing off our trot through fashion months of the past—by way of New York, London, and Italy—we arrive in Paris. The historic capital of fashion (and based on what I’ve seen of the collections so far, a title it retains), it was impossible to edit down this timeline to just 25 clips—too many incredibly important designers and collections, too much beauty, too much originality. I also couldn’t help myself from doubling up on YSL, Lacroix, Westwood, Patou, and Galliano.
From the early 1960s through to 1998, this group ends with one of Alexander McQueen’s few collections for Givenchy (more on his debut later this week.) The most moving show that I’ve seen this fashion month was Sarah Burton’s final collection for McQueen, after 26 years with the house—there have been several very lovely elegies for her work there in Vogue, the New York Times, and other publications.
May these films bring you some inspiration and joy on this first day in October.
