A Video Timeline

As New York Fashion Week starts later this week, I thought it might be fun to share videos of some of my favourite past NYFW shows. There is a dearth of pre-1980s video footage available online. Whether the footage exists anywhere is hard to say—fashion shows were often filmed for evening news snippets but those tapes were often recorded over by TV stations, as they weren’t considered to have any historical value. I dream of coming across of stash of 1960s and 1970s fashion shows on 16 mm in an archive someday…

The twenty-five shows below are a real mix—from maximalism to minimalism, from elegance to retro fun. The Pauline Trigère S/S 1967 show (second clip) is a particular dream.
